Chicano Studies professor talks to a group of children the significance of Chicano history.

Instead of giving a campus tour for three days in the summer, I’ve made arrangements to escort high school freshmen on May 8th to workshops for three hours. It became two hours instead because one of the hours was their lunch hour, so I just left after that. It was awesome because I don’t have to go to school during the summer for three days.

I had almost forgotten that I went to the Chinese Cultural Festival with my mom on April 26th. I knew I was forgetting something to upload. Anyway, this was my final Photojournalism assignment topic as well. I had to do a photo story, and my main focus of this one is the Chinese culture. I think that the Chinese culture has a lot of variety in terms of the food they eat, the way they dress on certain ocassions, the type of music they play, etc. I was very excited to do this assignment as well because it is what I am most familiar at.

The main performance area. You can’t really see it because of the darkness, but they had the Chinese opera puppet performance showing inside.

Then they had a performer that danced and sang to Chinese popular songs with little children. Many children with their parents went up to the lawn just to be part of the event.

What’s a festival without food? There were so many food vendors, and they were all busy, like this one, trying to serve as much customers as they could in the hot weather. I got myself a plate of 臭豆腐 (stinky tofu) and a nice cold cup of 珍珠奶茶 (boba/bubble milk tea).

Since the Olympics are held in China this year, they had a picture gallery display for people to check out Beijing. It was full of beautiful pictures.

Young children performed a couple of tradtional Chinese songs with the Asian instruments like the 二胡 (erhu).

After that performance, you have a couple of older adults showing their Tai-chi Quan skills. You could really feel the tremendous patience they have to have!

Last but not least, here are some vendor goodies you could buy. There were some very beautiful ones, like the dragons made out of beads. I didn’t get to ask how much were they, though. Haha.

Fuji Ramen

Alright, so this isn’t a recap, but the recaps will continue tomorrow.

If any of you live in southern California, you know how bipolar the weather has been lately. For example, it was in the 90’s, and then it suddenly became 50’s and 60’s with thunderstorms. Well, my mom, my aunt, and I went out to eat at Fuji Ramen in San Gabriel because they sell ramen for $4.99 (plus tax) each. Although I thought the presentation of the ramen lacked a bit, the taste of them were decent. The price of it was definitely worth it, though, especially when the bowls of their ramen were pretty huge, too. It was definitely satisfying in the cold weather.

Fuji Ramen

I ordered the pork ramen, which had a couple of braised pork pieces.

Fuji Ramen

The Chinese translation on the menu said this was a combination of everything, like vegetables and meat, but it turned out to be only vegetable ramen.

Fuji Ramen

My aunt ordered the seafood ramen. It had like two mussels, a couple of shrimp and squid pieces.

Fuji Ramen

They also serve sashimi, like this small side of five pieces of sashimi for $4.99 (plus tax). It was well worth it because the fish was very fresh, and it tasted sweet with the soy sauce and wasabi.

Fuji Ramen

Last but not least, they have this grilled eggplant dish, which I thought it looked the prettiest in terms of presentation. The taste of it was awesome, too. I wonder how did they get the eggplant like that.
